Glass urge: A bin beyond “Green Glass” Luard Rd collection schedule

This is a sample letter that drafted by a glass friend who has been delivering glass to the Luard Rd Refuse Collection Point. She as other glass friends come across time pressure because the glass collection is closed after 11:00am. [Green Glass had received calls for “waiting” since friends were stuck by traffic jam]

If a glass bin is allowed to place at Luard Rd RCP, friends can deliver glass in a more convenient way for the Point opens daily, from 6:30am to 11:30pm.

Here is her sample letter addressed to FEHD and EPD for the bin space.

Sample letter

To: Mr. CW Lau, AD, Food & Env Hygiene Dept: cwlau@fehd.gov.hk, enquiries@fehd.gov.hk
Mr Albert Lam, Dep Dir of Env Protection Dept: waste_reduction@epd.gov.hk, enquiry@epd.gov.hk

Dear Sir,

I am writing to seek your immediate attention of waste management. Hong Kong is a well-known city with ton of waste listed at  the front globally  but with less recognition of waste management. Funded  by the Environment and Conservation Fund, The Hong Kong Dumper truck Driver Association launched the programme “ Green Glass Green” initiatively to collect and recycle glass.

However, restricted by the collection hours each time from 9-11am at the Refuse Collection Point managed by FEHD, the members of public would not participate properly. I strongly demand your department could arrange a glass collection bin at the Refuse Collection Point so that all of us could drop off our glass.

The advantage of the above arrangement:

  1. Encourage the public could drop off their glass during the open hours and make use of source separation and recycling.
  2. Create real flexibility to the logistic for Hong Kong Dumper truck Driver Association.
  3. Launch by various stages, the 1st stage: open from 8am-9pm, a glass collection bin could be placed at the Refuse Collection Point, Luard St

I strongly believe our government should response spontaneously to meet the mission of waste control and make the arrangement accordingly.

Thank you for your immediately attention and looking forward to hearing from you soon

Best Regards
